- Abstract
- Dead leaves ofMusasp. (banana) were collected in northern Thailand during an investigation of saprobic fungi. Preliminary morphological observations revealed that three specimens belong toDictyoarthrinium. Phylogenetic analyses of combined SSU, LSU, ITS andtef1-α sequence data revealed thatDictyoarthriniumforms a clade in Didymosphaeriaceae (Massarineae, Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes) sister toSpegazzinia. Based on contrasting morphological features with the extant taxa ofDictyoarthrinium, coupled with the multigene analyses,Dictyoarthrinium musaesp. nov. is introduced herein. Our study provides the first detailed molecular investigation forDictyoarthriniumand supports its placement in Didymosphaeriaceae (Massarineae, Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes). Previously,Dictyoarthriniumwas classified in Apiosporaceae (Xylariales, Sordariomycetes).
